PALACE GRIT-PRIME is ready to use interior wall & floor primer designed to provide an improved mechanical key to substrates that are of limited porosity or of a very smooth finish. It gives a coarse-textured finish and forms a strong bond with impermeable substrates allowing subsequently applied coatings or plasters to key into the primed surface and optimise their adhesion to the structure PALACE GRIT-PRIME is effective on smooth and impermeable substrates such as terrazzo, glazed ceramic tiles and impermeable natural stone coverings to optimise the bond achieved by subsequently applied to levelling compounds, adhesives and any other similar cement-based system. PALACE GRIT-PRIME can be applied as a one-coat membrane onto badly sanded mastic asphalt, rolled asphalt or fine asphalt old coatings and for sealing old, smooth and sound power-floated concrete surfaces, magnesia screeds, metal substrates (e.g. channelled plate) stable vacuumed and sanded vinyl, linoleum, thermoplastic & semi-flexible tiles and hard rubber coverings in domestic areas.
- Provides an excellent key and enhances bond to smooth surfaces
- Primer ready to use & apply by either a brush or roller
- Rapid drying primer which dries 15 minutes after painting out
- For use on a wide range of smooth, impermeable surfaces
- Ideal for improving adhesion bond in tile on tile applications
- Improves bond to non-porous surfaces for self-levelling compounds
- Solvent-free low-odour coating
All Surfaces must be smooth; sound clean, dry and free of any contamination such as dust, oil, grease and existing loose surface coatings which must be mechanically removed and any surface defects repaired with a suitable repair compound or mortar in accordance with anticipated in-service load requirements. Poorly attached ceramic tiles should be removed and if necessary, levelled with PALACE SMOOTH BASE levelling smoothing underlayment. All sub-floors should have an effective damp proof membrane already in place beneath the existing surface finish. Porous, worn or dusty surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned of all dust, oil, coatings & loose surface matter. Gypsum plaster or anhydrite floors must be brushed free of all loose laitance and Gypsum screeds should be less than 75% RH, (residual moisture content < 0.5% w/w total free moisture)
Always stir PALACE GRIT-PRIME thoroughly before application to ensure a consistent dispersion of aggregate within the mix. Apply PALACE GRIT-PRIME with a roller, paintbrush or brush, short-pile roller or pad applicator and avoid the formation of puddles or excessive layering. Allow between approx. 1-4 hours to dry and expect that it usually takes up to the maximum 3 to the 4-hour period when coated over impermeable surfaces such as ceramic tiles at ambient room temperature conditions. Low temperatures (<15’C) and high humidity will prolong drying time. PALACE floor levelling compounds can be applied after drying for approx. 1 to 2 hours. Refer to the product datasheet for the appropriate floor-levelling compound. After the required drying time (see below) ceramic tiles and natural stone can be laid with PALACE TRADE-FLEX, EASI-FLEX or MULTI-FLEX tile adhesives. Clean brushes & rollers used to apply PALACE GRIT-PRIME in water immediately after use. Uncured product may be removed by washing and wiping clean damp surface excess residues with a wet cloth. Cured product can only be removed by mechanical means.
The consumption of PALACE GRIT-PRIME on any level, smooth and even hard impermeable surface will cover at a rate of approximately 8- 10 sq. m/ litre – (6.0 – 7.5 sq.mtr/kg)
Storage & Packaging:
PALACE GRIT-PRIME is supplied either as 5 litre or 1-litre buckets and has a storage life of not less than 12 months if stored in dry, unopened conditions. Consult the PALACE GRIT-PRIME material safety data sheet for advice on handling and safety procedures.
